If you've ever visited Chicago, then you know it's a city full of life, history, and drop dead gorgeous wedding venues. However, if you’re like me, and crave all things European-inspired, finding the perfect mansion estate property with beautiful gardens and an enchanting indoor ambiance might be a challenge in our beloved city. Without question, the Armour House is an undeniably beautiful venue for a wedding. When Taylor from Amelia Cole Events crafted her vision for a unique editorial shoot at the Armour House, we were delighted to provide the florals and decor. I have been known to openly express my love for soft color palettes, and even though bright colors are beautiful, a perfect combination of slate grey dusty blue mixed with green shades was one that I couldn’t resist, especially knowing that Maria Harte Photography would be behind the camera.
Most people associate Chicago with brutal winters, and for the most part, this is true. However, what most people don't realize is that there is often a brief period of time in the dead of winter, when the air is brisk but the sun is shining, and on occasion, we get to enjoy a bright, warm day that let’s us forget for a few minutes that its still winter. We lucked out when our photo shoot landed on one of these magical winter days.
Our flower line up for this shoot included an interesting grouping of textured blooms, foliage, and beautiful white florals. We wanted whimsical bouquets with natural elements that would compliment the unique color palette of the maids dresses. Subtle navy privet berries and beautiful green Italian ruscus and sage eucalyptus added a dark, dramatic element to contrast with the stunning white garden roses, peonies, and amaryllis blooms. Soft, neutral grey dusty miller served as the bridge between lights and darks. The girls’ bouquets were finished with draping silk ribbons from Silk and Willow. This palette soon became a favorite of all time.
Fun fact. Our new website and brand for La Rue Floral was inspired almost entirely by this editorial shoot, because these photos by Maria Harte Photo, are...simply flawless. You can also catch this shoot on Inspired By This, under our former name VEIL Event Design.
